North Caspian Operating Company N.V.

Partner Information

The North Caspian Project is the first major offshore oil and gas project in the Republic of Kazakhstan, combining the Kashagan, Kairan, and Aktoty fields. Kashagan is one of the largest fields discovered in the world in recent decades, with recoverable reserves of approximately 9–13 billion barrels of oil. It is located 80 km from Atyrau on the shallow shelf of the Caspian Sea.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Agreement (1997) by an international consortium of major energy companies, including KazMunayGas NC JSC, Eni, Shell, ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, CNPC and INPEX.

The Project's infrastructure includes offshore and onshore production facilities. In 2016, Kazakhstan began commercial oil production for the first time at the Kashagan offshore field.
